THE GLASS FURNACE ANNOUNCED ITS

2005 COURSE PROGRAM

The Glass Furnace Istanbul, which has become the new meeting point for artists and students from different countries, will be offering a wide range of courses within its 2005 program. The students who take a course at the Glass Furnace have a chance to work with world renowned artists/masters, enjoy the peaceful location of the school and discover the mystic city of İstanbul. They can also witness the traditional hand made production made by talented craftsmen.

2005 course program will cover various techniques and  the courses will be taught by instructors with international teaching experience. Some of these are Davide Salvadore, Fritz Dreisbach, Boyd Sugiki, Petr Novotny, Anna Boothe and Gerry King. The first session will start on May 1  and the courses which are structured as two week intensive sessions will cover techniques like glassblowing, sandcasting, kilncasting, fusing, lampworking, beadmaking and mixed media. The studios are equipped with modern tools and the students can learn glass or improve themselves in studios where instructors can attend to each participant individually. Students with different ages, nationalities and backgrounds attend to courses at the Glass Furnace and this creates a unique environment for cultural exchange and social richness. The students  exhibit their works at the end of each sesion.

Apart from the two week intensive courses, the Glass Furnace runs two day workshops in different techniques and rents the hotshop. The school has already gathered a good collection of glass art pieces donated by the artists who taught at the Glass Furnace and these pieces are viewed by many people who visit the school.

The Glass Furnace also arranges spectacular events at the school. Within the most recent event of this kind, the 2nd International Bosphorus Glass Fest, a large group of audience had a chance to watch artists and masters from different countries including, Charles Parriot and B.Jane Cowie. Also well known Italian artist Davide Salvadore made a demonstration during the closing ceremony of the festival.

The Glass Furnace, situated on the green banks of Riva River, offers an alternative vacation with its dormitory, resting place by the riverside, Agora, swimming pool and nice garden.
